The Lisburn Linen Cushion Cover is inspired by antique French sacking material, which has become an icon of the country-chic decor movement.
19th century grain sacks, which were usually hand woven from a long-lasting fabric such as linen or hemp, often featured a personalised coloured stripe. These details were essential in helping a farm or family identify their grain. Some families even embroidered their initials onto the sacks to make them easily identifiable.

These classic cushion covers are woven with a cotton weft and linen warp – fibres praised for their longevity and soft handle.  They are woven on our refurbished Ruti shuttle looms, which hail from the 1960s, at our open-to-the public mill in Plettenberg Bay, South Africa.

One of the key characteristics that differentiates the vintage shuttle looms from more modern weaving machinery is their ability to weave a true selvedge (a self-finished edge that prevents the fabric from fraying or unravelling). We think the selvedge is an iconic feature on the Lisburn Linen and have left it exposed on the cushion covers as an aesthetic detail.
